LafargeHolcim Announces Global Rollout of Low-Carbon Concrete
Leading building materials company LafargeHolcim announced today the introduction of ECOPact, a line of “green concrete” in multiple markets, including the U.S., Canada, UK, Latin America and other markets. ECOPact was introduced in European markets earlier this year.
Building materials companies are coming increasingly in focus in the fight against climate change, due to the carbon-intensity of their primary products. Cement production, an ingredient in concrete, accounts for approximately 8% of global carbon dioxide emissions, with over 900 kg of CO2 emissions generated for every 1000 kg of material produced.
Jan Jenisch, LafargeHolcim CEO said:
“I am proud to introduce ECOPact, the industry’s broadest range of green concrete for high-performing, sustainable and circular construction. Building on the success of ECOPact in Switzerland, Germany and France, we are now introducing it across the Americas. With the rollout of this Green Concrete, we are accelerating the transition to more sustainable building materials for greener construction.”
The company stated that ECOPact will be available at a range of low-carbon levels, from 30% to 100% less carbon emissions compared to standard concrete. Where regulatory conditions allow, ECOPact products integrate upcycled construction and demolition materials, further closing the resource loop.
LafargeHolcim stated that it offers a broad portfolio of low-carbon products and technologies, with one-third of its net sales already in sustainable solutions. The company dedicates 50% of its innovation resources to low carbon solutions, with 40% of its patents currently in this area.
