Eni Launches Sustainable Mobility Company
Italian energy company Eni announced today the launch of Eni Sustainable Mobility, a new vertically integrated company focused on the climate transition across the mobility sector value chain.
The announcement follows Eni’s launch in 2021 of its integrated renewables, retail and e-mobility business, Plenitude.
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said:
“This new company will join Plenitude and become the second strategic lever supporting our energy transition pathway, which targets eliminating Scope 3 emissions. These have been the most significant part of our emissions and the most difficult to eliminate as they are generated by customers by using our products.”
The new company incorporates existing bio-refining and biomethane assets, including Eni’s Venice and Gela bio-refineries, and will oversee the development of new projects, and also includes a network of over 5,000 sales points in Europe to market and distribute several energy carriers, including hydrogen and electricity, biomethane and HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) and other mobility products such as bitumen, lubricants and fuels.
Eni Sustainable Mobility will be directly controlled by Eni and will be led by CEO Stefano Ballista, who previously served as Sustainable Mobility Director at Eni Energy Evolution.
Descalzi added:
“Through this operation, we will integrate and unlock new value from our industrial initiatives, products and services based on innovative technologies that will form a unique and decarbonized mobility offering.”
